Cathexis II

Cathexis II on arrival at Robertsons prior to refitCathexis II is a 39' Shearwater (Designed by Dudley Dix and built in South Africa), which under it's previous owner, has extensively cruised.  Her present owner purchased her with the intention of cruising the North Sea and English Channel for a couple of years before going trans-Atlantic.

The years of exposure to the effects of strong sunlight had a highly detrimental effect to the laid teak decks and the interior layout, although practical in the Mediterranean was not ideal for her future use.

To this end, Robertsons has embarked on a complete refit including the re-painting of her topsides in Awlgrip, replacement of her engine, removal of teak decking and making good in preparation for the application of a new non-slip surface. Substantial changes were also made to her internal layout with the construction of new interior furnishings.

Major modifications include the replacement of the shower which previously drained directly into the bilge - a far from ideal situation which has been rectified by the construction of a new shower tray and sump, draining to a grey-waste tank which expels overboard.

Externally, several areas of repair are being addressed such as the construction of a replacement forehatch in solid hardwood and generally 'tidying her up'.  With her beautiful lines and new layout, Cathexis II will certainly fulfil the requirements of her new owner.

A major electrical and electronic re-fit was aslo conducted by Robertsons contractor, Art Butler of Deben Marine with new standing rigging and sails provided by Altantic Rigging and Suffolk Sails respectively.  To complete a fine job, signwriter, John Roberts, repainted her name.

Above you can view a selection of images taken during her refit including the modification of her decks and particular features such as the interior joinery and new forehatch.  Click on the images to enlarge.
